Begonia Lamoon

Begonia 'Lamoon' is a stunning Thai hybrid prized for its soft, pastel coloration and highly decorative foliage. Its leaves display a beautiful mix of silvery-white, pink, and dark green tones, creating a shimmering effect that makes each leaf unique. The dark green veining provides striking contrast against the lighter leaf surface, giving the plant an elegant and refined appearance.

Unlike many begonias grown for dramatic dark foliage,'Lamoon' is appreciated for its soft, luminous colors and glossy finish. Under bright conditions, the foliage develops an almost shimmering quality, with the pink and silver tones becoming especially vibrant. Its upright growth habit and colorful leaves make it an excellent focal point in any begonia collection.

My mother plant was obtained through tissue culture at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden plant sale during the American Begonia Society Convention held in Fort Worth in 2026, hosted by the Mae Blanton DFW Branch. It has proven to be a vigorous and fast-growing plant. In my collection, it thrives approximately one foot from a T5 grow light in a plant cabinet where humidity is maintained at 70% or higher. Under these conditions, the plant produces rapid growth and excellent coloration.

Although I grow mine in elevated humidity, Begonia 'Lamoon' has shown itself to be more adaptable than many specialty begonias. Like many cane-type begonias, it can tolerate lower household humidity levels while still maintaining attractive foliage, making it a relatively forgiving plant for growers who do not have greenhouse cabinets or terrarium conditions. For best results, I grow it in bright, indirect light and a well-draining substrate that retains some moisture while allowing good airflow around the roots.
