Begonia Jurassic Jr. Arctic Swirl
Begonia ‘Jurassic Jr. Arctic Twist’ is a compact rex begonia celebrated for its dramatic foliage and tidy growth habit. Part of the popular Jurassic Jr. series, this cultivar offers all the bold color and texture of the original Jurassic begonias but with smaller leaves and increased branching, creating a fuller, denser plant
Its striking leaves feature a silvery-white center accented by subtle purple and teal tones, surrounded by deep green margins and a distinctive spiral twist that gives each leaf a sculptural appearance. The strong contrast between the frosty center and dark edges creates a bright, eye-catching display that stands out even in shaded plant collections.
With its naturally mounded growth habit, Begonia ‘Jurassic Jr. Arctic Twist’ is an excellent choice for window sills, tabletops, cabinets, and even shaded outdoor areas during warmer months. Its compact size and dense foliage make it particularly attractive as a houseplant, where its unique texture and coloration can be appreciated up close. The silver tones become especially vibrant under proper lighting, giving the foliage an almost metallic appearance.
In my experience, this begonia thrives in bright, indirect light and a chunky, well-draining substrate that promotes healthy root development. I allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, as rex begonias prefer consistent moisture but are intolerant of prolonged wet conditions. While it appreciates moderate to high humidity, I have found it to be adaptable to a range of indoor environments when provided with good airflow and a consistent care routine. This variety is particularly sensitive to overwatering, and allowing the growing medium to partially dry between waterings has consistently produced the healthiest growth and foliage quality.
