Begonia 'Maurice Amey' is a vigorous shrub-type begonia resulting from a cross between the cane hybrid ‘Torch’ and an unidentified shrub species known as U062. This exceptional cultivar is admired for its large, metallic pink leaves accented by subtle silver spotting and striking dark olive-green veins. The undersides of the leaves display a rich dark red coloration, adding further visual interest. Under ideal growing conditions, with abundant bright light and a small amount of direct sun, the foliage develops a distinctive silver edging that enhances its ornamental appeal.

Named in honor of the late Maurice Amey, a highly respected and dedicated member of both the Southwest Region and the American Begonia Society, Begonia 'Maurice Amey' remains a cherished cultivar among begonia enthusiasts. It is a seed sibling to the well-known cultivars Begonia 'Don Miller' and Begonia 'Benigo', further highlighting its significance within the begonia community and making it a valuable addition to any collection.

The mother plant for these cuttings is grown outdoors during the summer months, where the foliage develops vibrant shades of bright metallic pink. During the winter, the leaves take on a more pronounced silvery coloration, showcasing the plant's seasonal variation in color. This cultivar is particularly valued for its durability and adaptability, demonstrating excellent tolerance to higher temperatures, lower humidity levels, and occasional drying between waterings. Its vigorous growth habit and resilience make it an outstanding choice for both experienced collectors and those new to growing begonias.
